Nick Carter, Ed.D

Superintendent of Schools

Welcome to the 2018-19 school year! As the new school year begins, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and to let you know of our commitment to serve you and your children. Maximizing student success and opportunity in a positive and safe learning environment is a priority in the Breckinridge County School District. Our goal is to inspire and challenge our students to achieve greatness in their futures. With the entire Breckinridge County community working together, we can continue to achieve all goals.

Students in the Breckinridge County School District continue to perform at high levels academically because of strong partnerships throughout the community. School and district student achievement scores are at an all-time high. Our graduation rate exceeds state averages, and we have received both state and national recognitions. As you can see, there is much for our community to celebrate, and we look forward to many more celebrations in the upcoming school year.

The staff of the Breckinridge County School District is fiercely dedicated to our students’ academic and emotional well-being. They focus on helping students achieve high levels of academic success while making school work challenging and engaging. They are also aware of the many emotional challenges our children experience throughout the school years. Our hard-working and dedicated staff strives each day to ensure that our students are successful and are being empowered to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century working world. The entire staff is looking forward to working closely with you this school year to help our students explore their interests while excelling in all areas of their academic and extracurricular endeavors.

Throughout this school year, we will be able to watch as one new school is constructed and another is renovated. Hardinsburg Elementary School is scheduled to open at some point during the 2018-2019 school year, and we will begin renovating the Breckinridge County Area Technology Center this school year. These facility projects were made possible by an entire community that shares a vision for the future. Please take every opportunity to talk with the children in our community about not only what’s to come for them, but also the wonderful history of our school district and county. Please help us get this school year off to a terrific start by joining us for our Back-to-School events at each of our schools. Opening Day for all staff will take place on Thursday, August 9, 2018. The first day for students will be on Friday, August 10, 2018.

On behalf of the Board of Education and the staff of the Breckinridge County School District, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our parents and community members for their past, present, and future support. Without you, we would not have experienced such extraordinary success and be set up to continue on a relentless pursuit toward greatness for our students. In addition, I would like to acknowledge and thank the school district staff members for the work that they do each day. Their dedication, their countless hours of work with our children, and the love and care that they provide is truly a blessing and an inspiration. Thank you for your commitment to the children in Breckinridge County. I look forward to a wonderful year with many achievements and successes to celebrate!
